Ingrid Mapelli was born in Guatemala and migrated to Miami, Florida in 1969 with her mother and sister. She has made of Miami her native home. She loves the great outdoors that Florida offers, especially its great “sea of grass,” as the Florida Everglades are known. Ingrid has made it a point in her life to teach her children to appreciate and love nature, and to explore the great outdoors by camping, swimming, gardening and cleaning the bay.

She earned her Child Development Associate Degree at Miami Dade College. “I have worked in the Early Education field for the past fifteen years, and have worked with different early childhood curriculums.  At this point I’m expanding my horizons by working in the Montessori environment.” Currently, she is working on her Montessori Teaching credentials and will graduate in 2009.

“I feel passionate about teaching children, especifically when they learn about the Earth and its ecosystem. My introduction to the state of our planet was initially with a wonderful yet sad documentary. I learned that we need to act and to care for tha planet. I quickly learned about recycling, reducing and reusing. Bringing my knowledge to the classroom and seeing children understand these concepts and how they apply them at home has been surprising and motivating, to say the least. Our biggest gain is that these are the children who will make the difference for our Mother Earth.”
